Noorung was originally a stray dog on the Korean island Marado, tenderly cared for by an elderly couple, and built a deep bond with them. Unfortunately, good times didn't last, as the owners fell seriously ill and left the small island. Before boarding the ship, the owners told Noorung they would come back to pick him up, so Noorung never left the spot where his owners departed. From that day on, he guarded the seaside rocks day after day, braving wind and rain, waiting for grandpa and grandma to return. He waited like this for over a year. After his story was reported, it touched countless people and drew more attention to the loyalty and deep affection of stray animals. Noorung is a symbol for patience, resiliance and loyalty.
