Photographer captures the Arctic through a seal’s eyes — and earns top recognition at Wildlife Photographer of the Year Norwegian photographer Audun Rikardsen placed an underwater motion-triggered camera beside an ice hole and waited. At 4 a.m., a polar bear approached and peered directly into the opening — creating a striking image that looks almost like the view of a seal suddenly coming face to face with one of the Arctic’s most formidable predators. Rikardsen waited another eight hours for the bear to leave before retrieving the camera. When he saw what he had captured, he said he was so happy he shouted loudly enough to probably wake every polar bear in the area.
