On April 28, 2025, at Roy Sutherland Playground in Rochester, Minnesota, an 8-year-old autistic Somali boy took a packet of applesauce from Hendrix's diaper bag while she was there with her own child. Hendrix chased after the boy and called him a racial slur, which caused the child to freeze up, and his father, fearing Hendrix might hit his son, grabbed the food from him. The confrontation's aftermath was recorded on video, showing Hendrix repeating the slur several times, this time directed at the man filming, along with comments about him being a drain on the welfare system. The video went viral, and Hendrix later set up a fundraiser after identifying herself as the woman in it, which drew controversy for appearing to monetize the incident. She was criminally charged on August 26, 2025, with two counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct. After a four-day trial in July 2026, a jury convicted her on the count involving her conduct toward the man filming her but acquitted her on the count involving the child, and she was fined $1,000, given a stayed 90-day jail sentence, and ordered to complete 200 hours of community service. Her attorney has said he plans to appeal on First Amendment grounds.
